Atalanta are in the Europa League Final and Fiorentina in the Conference League Final, so inevitably their rescheduled Serie A game has to be on June 2.
The fixture was meant to take place on March 17 and was called off just an hour before kick-off when Fiorentina director Joe Barone collapsed in the team hotel.
He was rushed to hospital, where he died two days later.
Because both teams have such packed schedules, it has been impossible to reschedule that Serie A match and the situation is not getting any easier.
Atalanta will play Juventus in the Coppa Italia Final on May 15 and then Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League Final on May 22.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina are going to face Olympiacos in the Europa Conference League Final on May 29.
Atalanta-Fiorentina forced delay
It is simply impossible to schedule Atalanta-Fiorentina in Serie A before the weekend of June 2 and that will be made official over the next few days.
This means that it will be played after the Serie A season has concluded for everyone else on May 25.
It is by no means ideal, especially as both Atalanta and Fiorentina are in the running for European qualification through Serie A, so their result could have a crucial knock-on effect for other teams.
