Three things learnt from Juventus’ 0-0 draw with Torino

Adrien Rabiot continued to impress for Juventus, being one of the few bright spots as Massimiliano Allegri’s side were held to a difficult 0-0 draw with Torino.

The Bianconeri have been in poor form for months now, managing just two wins in their 10 matches prior to the Derby della Mole, continuing to increase the pressure on the coach and his players. A strong response was expected against their rivals, but one did not arrive.

Juventus showed off all their usual frustrations and issues as a cagey Torino worked hard to grind out a point in the derby, even looking at risk of snatching a win on occasion, forcing a few saves out of Wojciech Szczesny. In retrospect, what have we learnt from the Derby della Mole?

Rabiot central for Juventus

One of the more concerning aspects of the Bianconeri’s draw with their rivals was the midfield, where play was often bogged down, which led to scrappy moves and lost balls. This lack of control was a key reason behind the result, but one man isn’t to blame – Rabiot.

The Frenchman worked incredibly hard across the 90 minutes to try and establish himself in the centre of the pitch, completing 50 passes and taking 72 touches as he tried to drive moves forward. He didn’t let off defensively, making five recoveries and three clearances.

Cambiaso immaturity

The 24-year-old Italian talent has been one of the positives of the season for Juventus, but he was unfortunately unable to show his best in the derby with Torino, picking up an incredibly silly booking and generally failing to show much of note.

Whilst Cambiaso is an important player for the Bianconeri, his performance was a sign that fans should avoid placing too much pressure on him. He also struggled to limit Mergim Vojvoda, which was a little concerning.

Yildiz spark

Federico Chiesa had one real highlight for Juventus during the derby, an early low cross to Dusan Vlahovic, whose resulting shot ricocheted off the post. When he was brought off in the 65^th minute, Yildiz replaced him, his fifth consecutive league appearance off the bench.

The 18-year-old produced one of the few threatening chances for his side in the 75^th minute, forcing a testing save from Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, and generally looked bright at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. Considering the poor form of Chiesa, it’s really time to hand Yildiz another start again.
