Juventus have officially sacked coach Max Allegri due to ‘behaviour during and after the Coppa Italia final the club deemed incompatible with the values of Juventus.’
A statement was released confirming his actions in and around the Coppa Italia Final were “not compatible with the values of Juventus and those who must represent the club.”
The full wording of the statement:
“Juventus announces that it has relieved Massimiliano Allegri of his position as head coach of the men’s first team.
“The exoneration follows certain behaviours during and after the Coppa Italia final that the club deemed incompatible with the values of Juventus and the behaviour that those who represent it should have.
“It ends a period of collaboration, which began in 2014, restarted in 2021 and ended, after the previous three seasons together, with the Italian Cup final.
“The club wishes Massimiliano Allegri good luck in his future endeavours.”
The tactician was under contract until June 2025, but still widely expected to be dismissed over the summer.
However, the situation escalated rapidly following Allegri’s antics during and after the Coppa Italia Final victory over Atalanta on Wednesday.
The coach was first sent off for dissent, then tore off his jacket, tie and started to undo his shirt, shouting for refereeing designator Gianluca Rocchi as he stormed away.
During the trophy celebrations, he was caught on camera seeming to tell director Cristiano Giuntoli to ‘go away’ and not join in with the squad.
Allegri tension erupted after Coppa Italia Final
After that, he was also involved in an altercation with Tuttosport editor Guido Vaciago, which is subject to a FIGC investigation.
They tried to calm the situation by releasing a joint statement to news agency ANSA today, but the damage was done.
Allegri oversaw this morning’s training session, then was recalled to the Continassa training ground in the afternoon along with director Giuntoli for the meeting where he was informed of his dismissal.
This was Allegri’s second stint on the Juventus bench after 2014-2019, returning in the summer of 2021.
In those eight seasons, he won five Serie A titles, four editions of the Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana trophies.
In a curious symmetry, Allegri was also fired on May 17 in 2019.
He gave them a reason to sack him, well done
Yippee!!! we won’t miss you 4 sure!!!
It’s 18 months too late, but I hope that they’ve not had to pay his final year as he engaged in gross misconduct.
It’s rich that he’s telling Tuttosport to be honest now when they’ve been running propaganda for him 3 years straight.
